Remote avalanche monitoring and early warning

The Cautus Avalanche Radar stands as a robust and highly efficient early warning system for avalanches. It can be equipped with an integrated camera that activates upon avalanche detection, capturing crucial footage. All measurement data and videos are swiftly accessible on Cautus Web, providing near real-time information.

Furthermore, the Cautus Avalanche Radar boasts the ability to promptly trigger various safety measures, such as traffic lights, sirens, dynamic signs, as well as sending SMS and email alerts immediately following avalanche detection.

This system seamlessly integrates with our suite of avalanche warning and verification systems, delivering a comprehensive understanding of avalanche and traffic dynamics.

Measurements

The Cautus Avalanche Radar provides a robust and highly effective early warning system for avalanches, functioning reliably in all weather conditions, including darkness.

Featuring an adjustable field of view of up to 120° horizontally and 80° vertically, with individual beams spanning 2° horizontally and 6° vertically, this advanced technology significantly expands the radar’s coverage area. As a result, it offers a more comprehensive and detailed assessment of the monitored area.

By conducting extensive measurements of avalanches across various European locations and under diverse weather conditions, we’ve crafted a distinctive array of analysis filters tailored to each specific site. These filters are continuously utilized and fine-tuned to optimize performance.

The avalanche information obtained from the radar serves as the basis for issuing warnings and providing comprehensive details about avalanche events. This radar seamlessly integrates with our Cautus Web system, where you can access in-depth information about each event, including speed, geographical location, extent, as well as video and image documentation.

The radar system is typically configured with cameras to provide visual documentation of the avalanche event. Furthermore, it can be seamlessly integrated with our other technologies, such as the Cautus RADS and Cautus Avalanche DAS system, to verify whether an avalanche reaches the road and if any road users are impacted by the avalanche.
